You're just keeping your idle higher than it should be all the time, and not having it compensate any when the AC starts (or you shift, if you're manual). I'm guessing when you put the clutch in your engine essentially "dies" (rpms fall like a rock, overshoot idle, then bounce back up, etc). If you're automatic it might be less of a problem, but try putting it in neutral from a 3000 rpm cruise and I bet the same thing happens. Pulling that little bent hose and hit both sides with some Deep Creep or WD-40 per Robo's website should unstick things. I'd also pull the idle air connectors and spray them out with electrical cleaner, then pack them with dielectric grease. Turn your idle back down with the screw, and when you plug the connector back in you should notice the ECU taking over and raising the idle.
